Deutsche Bahn Supervisory Board Approves Sale of DB Schenker to DSV
At an extraordinary meeting, the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Bahn AG approved the sale of its subsidiary, DB Schenker, to the Danish transport and logistics group DSV. The sale, which is expected to be completed by 2025, is subject to receiving all required regulatory approvals.
On September 13, 2024, a contract was signed under which DSV will acquire DB Schenker for a market price of €14.3 billion. Including expected interest revenues until the deal closes, the total sale value could reach up to €14.8 billion.
According to Werner Gatzer, Chairman of the DB Supervisory Board, the sale of DB Schenker marks an important milestone in Deutsche Bahn’s efforts to focus on restructuring rail infrastructure in Germany and providing environmentally friendly passenger and freight services across Germany and Europe. This move will significantly reduce DB’s debt and contribute to the financial stability of the group.
“Our goal is to modernize Deutsche Bahn and focus on our core business,” said Dr. Richard Lutz, CEO of Deutsche Bahn.
In December 2023, Deutsche Bahn launched a transparent sale process for DB Schenker in compliance with EU regulations, during which DSV submitted the most economically advantageous offer. With around 72,700 employees in 130 countries, DB Schenker will continue to grow in partnership with a strong strategic owner.
DSV has committed to investing approximately €1 billion in the coming years to support further growth and confirmed that it will respect German co-determination and existing collective agreements.
With the sale of DB Schenker, the company’s position in the global logistics market will be strengthened, offering comprehensive solutions in land, air, and sea transportation. DSV is committed to continuing to invest in innovative transport solutions and sustainable practices within the logistics industry.
